In order to become an LCMHC NC, you will need to fulfill the supervised professional practice requirement and have a supervisor who will be approved by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Mental Health Counselors. This requirement includes a Supervision Contract, a Supervision Log and a Supervision Report that is submitted to the Board each quarter. Your supervisor must have a current LCMHCA license that is in good standing and be an active member of the NCBLCMHC.
Applicants for licensure must submit a completed application, fees, official transcripts, test scores and other documentation such as a criminal background check, professional disclosure statement and counseling verification forms. Once all of these items have been received, the Board will review them and make a decision on licensure. Those who already have an unrestricted license from another state can also apply for licensure by endorsement.
