Types of Attic Insulation

Posted on July 31, 2025

An Insulation Contractor can help lower your energy bills by keeping heat out during the summer and retaining warmth during the winter. The amount of insulation you need depends on your location (different climates require different R-values), the age of your home, and your budget. Having an expert assess your attic insulation levels and recommend a course of action can save you money on energy costs, improve comfort, and protect the lifespan of your roof.

There are 4 types of attic insulation:

Made of fiberglass, mineral wool, or cellulose, blanket insulation is pre-cut panels that fit between framing in walls, floors, and ceilings. It is typically installed in new construction but can be easily retrofitted in existing homes to add an extra layer of protection.

Rigid foam insulation comes in the form of rigid polystyrene, polyisocyanurate, or polyurethane boards. This type of insulation is more costly than batt or cellulose but offers greater R-value per inch. It is a great choice for insulating foundations, basement floors, wall cavities, inverted roofs, and exterior siding. Rigid foam also resists moisture and is fire-resistant.

Cellulose Insulation

Made from recycled paper material treated to resist pests and fire, cellulose is an eco-friendly attic insulation option. However, it can degrade over time and may require periodic maintenance. It is also a poor choice for areas where air leaks must be sealed as it will lose its R-value and cause drafts.

O?Daily News Article

Article

O’Daily News Article other newspapers of the time, which were often seen as a mouthpiece for the elite, the Daily News declared itself to be “on the side of the average citizen.” It favored the respectable, white ethnic masses; it would entertain them, empathize with them, assist them and battle their perceived enemies. In this sense it tapped into the deep veins of reactionary populism.

This stance was sometimes obscured by seemingly apolitical coverage of crime and human-interest stories (although even these tended to carry implicit right-wing messages). The newspaper also had a reputation for virulent anti-Semitism, which reached its nadir in a Capitol Stuff column by John O’Donnell on October 3, 1945. The article characterized the decision to remove General George S. Patton from his command in Germany as being engineered by a clique of “Zionist Jewish-American political leaders” in the government.

Types of Attic Insulation

Posted on July 8, 2025July 11, 2025

Unless you have been living with an attic that is fully insulated, chances are you are paying more than necessary for your energy bills. If your home is properly insulated, you will be able to lower your heating and cooling costs significantly. This will also help to increase your home’s value and make it a healthier place to live.

There are a few different types of attic insulation to choose from. Fiberglass batt insulation is a pre-cut panel of insulation made from recycled glass spun into fibers and offers good thermal protection. Spray foam insulation expands upon application, filling and sealing gaps and cracks effectively. It is ideal for attics with uneven joists.

What to Expect During Your Attic Insulation Installation with Energy Solutions

Another type of attic insulation is loose-fill cellulose, which is made from recycled newspaper and other paper products, wood chips, and other materials, and blows into place using a special machine. It is very effective for attics with irregular joists and tends to cost more than other forms of insulation.

Cellulose is one of the greenest forms of insulation and is non-toxic. However, it may contain asbestos, so be sure to consult a professional before installing this type of insulation in your home.

The best type of attic insulation for your home depends on your climate zone, local building codes, and other factors. It is also a good idea to get a home energy audit before implementing any attic insulation projects. You may be eligible for rebates through ENERGY STAR and your utility company, which can offset the costs of air sealing and insulating your attic.
